We have made a dedicated commitment to a quality breeding program. We treat all of our miniature schnauzer puppies with the same love and care as we would a puppy that we may want to keep with our family. We want our miniature schnauzer puppies to go to loving, pet quality homes.
We want your miniature schnauzer puppy to be a source of great love and pride of ownership. That’s why every puppy is treated with special loving care from birth. Below is some information about our miniature schnauzer litters as well as what you will receive when you purchase a miniature schnauzer puppy from us. We do appreciate your interest in our “babies.”
Dewclaws Removed. Our licensed veterinarian at 10 to 14 days old, removes the puppy’s dewclaws. This is a small vestigial claw higher up on the paw. We feel it is very important to have this professional procedure done, because leaving them can cause an important health issue later on in life. It is easy for a dog to tear or injure the dewclaw as he gets older. Additionally, the dewclaw does not serve any real purpose. Therefore, we have this professional procedure done on all of our puppies.
Tail Docked. All of our miniature schnauzer puppies will have their tail docked at the same time their dewclaws are removed. This is a professional procedure where a portion of the tail is removed. This is done for various reasons. The first reason is that the slimmer end of the tail can be damaged later on in life and result in injury to the dog. The second reason is for cosmetic purposes. If the tail is cropped at the right length the cropped tail looks great! Of course, tradition dictates the docked Schnauzer tail. Our veterinarian is very careful about what length the tail is docked with beauty and functionality in mind.
Ears Cropped. A Miniature Schnauzer’s ears are naturally floppy and fall over. Most of the time all of our puppies will have their ears cropped. This helps to accentuate the beautiful lines of the miniature schnauzer’s head and face. We feel that cropped ears are easier to maintain and keep dry. Our veterinarian will perform this professional procedure at the same time the dewclaws are removed and tail docked. Occasionally, we may leave a litters’ ears natural if we have some customers requesting a puppy with natural ears.
Vaccinations. The health of our puppies comes first and foremost. Proper vaccination is very crucial for a young puppy. Just like a newborn baby they are very susceptible to infection. We vaccinate all our puppies to insure their health and well being. Your miniature schnauzer puppy will come with a vaccination schedule providing you with the vaccines your puppy has received up to the date of purchase and when its’ next vaccination requirements are due to complete the full series of puppy vaccinations. It is very important to your puppy’s health to see your licensed veterinarian regarding the vaccines needed to be fully vaccinated against susceptible infections and diseases. Once these are completed you will need to insure your miniature schnauzer has an annual vaccination as well. We recommend you do not take your miniature schnauzer puppy around puppy parks and other places where there is high dog traffic until your puppy has received the full series of puppy vaccinations.
Worming. Most puppies do get worms. Because of this health concern we deworm our puppies to make sure they can grow and develop into healthy Miniature Schnauzers. We deworm our puppies on a schedule beginning at two weeks of age and every two weeks thereafter until they are 8 to 10 weeks old. Your miniature schnauzer puppy will come with a schedule providing you with the deworming it has received.
Socialization. We began socializing our miniature schnauzer puppies from birth. We handle them ourselves as puppies to get them comfortable with human contact. Second of all, we began familiarizing them with getting their nails trimmed, taking baths, and being groomed. We try to expose the puppies as soon as possible to children, family, and friends once they have been vaccinated. We want our miniature schnauzer puppies to be well socialized so when they go to their new homes they will know a little bit about being a good citizen.
Food. When the mother begins to wean her puppies we start feeding them Victor Dog Food for Active Dog and Puppy. We will send a sample of this with your new puppy. We recommend you continue feeding your puppy Victor puppy food. It is hard on a puppy’s tummy when you switch its food. If you do prefer to feed your puppy a different type of food you would need to gradually do this over a period of ten days to help prevent upsetting the puppy’s tummy. If you are softening the puppy’s food you will want to gradually wean it to eating dry food. It is much better for their teeth and gums as this helps to remove plaque.
Health Guarantee. All of our puppies come with a written health guarantee against any life threatening genetic defects that are unable to be medically treated until the puppy reaches one year of age. Please read all of the information on our written Health Guarantee. You will receive a written copy of the Health Guarantee upon purchase of a miniature schnauzer puppy from us.
Registration Paper. Our Miniature Schnauzer puppies can be registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC). All of our puppies will come with full AKC registration unless otherwise stated. You will receive your miniature schnauzer puppy’s registration paper with your puppy.
